For young people, each seven-week session will conclude with a Spotlight Showcase, sharing the growth and creativity of every participant. For adults, each workshop will be a self-contained, one-day experience.

See class schedules, descriptions and costs in our brochures, available for download at left.

Academy students will gain an appreciation of theatre arts, as well as a deeper understanding of the importance of teamwork, discipline, focus and commitment, all while having fun with their peers. Students will also benefit from an enhanced sense of self-image and confidence while they foster self-expression and develop creative acting skills.

Classes for young people will be held at the Pump House, 119 King Street, with workshop sessions at La Crosse Community Theatre, 118 Fifth Avenue North.

Meet our TEACHERS!

Diane Breeser is proud to say that she practically grew up at LCT, having started her “career” here in 1979. A former theatre major at UW-La Crosse, she received her bachelor’s cegree in elementary education in 2007 and has been a substitute teacher in the La Crosse School District ever since. She has worked with area school districts’ summer school drama programs and has taught workshops at the Pump House and La Crosse County libraries. She also enjoys writing literature-based scripts for educational use.

Marcia Brendum is a recent Viterbo University graduate with a degree in arts administration. She was born and raised in La Crosse and attended Aquinas High School. She has been very active in theatre—performing, directing, or stage-managing. This past summer she had an internship as a development assistant at Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona and plans to return there as a house manager.

Kelsey Taunt holds a bachelor’s degree in theatre with a double emphasis in acting and design from UW-Oshkosh. A native of La Crosse, her first taste of theatre was at LCT auditioning for Oliver! at age 10. Since then Kelsey has been involved in productions at the high school, college, community and professional levels in both Wisconsin and New York City. She’s been seen onstage at LCT in West Side Story and Chicago, and at UW-La Crosse and The Muse in Urinetown and Jekyll & Hyde, respectively. Kelsey loves teaching is thrilled to be working with the Spotlight Academy for the second year.

Michael Scott is a writer and performer. He has acted in many productions at the LCT, UW-La Crosse and The Fairbanks Shakespeare Theater. He speaks for the La Crosse Visitors and Convention Bureau, is a frequent contributor to the La Crosse Storytelling Festival and is a storyteller in many school districts. Michael is the creator of The Old School Variety Show, which celebrates local musicians and other performing artists. He has taught classes for LCT for three years and is continually amazed by the level of young talent in our region. Michael is a nut for Shakespeare and includes classical monologues in his classes. He lives in La Crosse with his wife and three children.
