LCT Announces Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘Pixies, Kings and Magical Things’

La Crosse, WI – 10/01/18 – La Crosse Community Theatre announces that tickets go on sale Monday, October 8, 2018 for Pixies, Kings and Magical Things. Performances begin November 3, 2018, and continue through Sunday, November 11, 2018. Shows are Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. in the Veterans Studio Theatre at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts.

Narrator Hans Christian Andersen steps in to perform three of his classic tales. The Swineherd tells the story of a vain princess and the lesson she learns from a clever boy. In The Pixie and the Grocer, a pixie learns the balance of art and appetite. And the classic tale of vanity, The Emperor’s New Clothes, is given a fun twist as the emperor follows the foolish counseling of his ministers.

“Children and families alike will love this fun and whimsical telling of three of Hans Christian Andersen’s popular tales. Come experience the joy of live theatre as we create a magical and interactive experience that all ages will enjoy,” said LCT Producing Artistic Director, Grant Golson.

Pixies, Kings and Magical Things is directed by Stacy Bruemmer. This production also features costume design by Jennifer Burchell and lighting design by Erek Weis.

The performers are Stacy Bruemmer, Mary Cate Cichock, Dustin Luecke, and Lucas Wesling.

LCT Announces Comedy, ‘Fools’

La Crosse, WI – 09/10/18 – La Crosse Community Theatre announces that tickets go on sale Monday, September 17, 2018 for Fools. Performances begin October 11, 2018, and continue through Sunday, October 21, 2018. Shows are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. in the Lyche Theatre at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts.

Leon Tolchinsky is ecstatic: he’s landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic village. He arrives to find people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and milking cows upside down. The town has been cursed with chronic stupidity and anyone who stays longer than 24 hours becomes cursed as well. To further complicate matters, Leon has fallen in love with a girl so dumb that she just learned how to sit down! Can he break the curse in time?

“On August 26, 2018, we lost one of the greatest playwrights of all time, Neil Simon. The author of over 30 plays and nearly the same number of movie screenplays, Simon received more combined Oscar and Tony nominations than any other writer. Come and see why his legacy lives on with our hilarious production of Fools,” said LCT Producing Artistic Director, Grant Golson.

Fools is directed by Liz Golson. This production also features set design by Kit Mayer, costume design by Theresa Smerud, lighting and sound design and technical direction by Erek Weis, and stage management by Molly Brueske.

LCT Announces Registration is Open for the Fall Session of Theatre for Youth Classes

La Crosse, WI – 08/22/18 – La Crosse Community Theatre announces that registration is now open for the fall session of Theatre for Youth classes. Classes meet on Saturday mornings September 15 through November 10, 2018, with no classes scheduled on September 29, at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts.

Discover the world through theatre! Our education program reflects our mission: To create productions and projects that enhance the theatrical literacy of our audience members, volunteers, students, and staff. The goals of our education program are to provide opportunities for creativity and personal growth in a fun, collaborative environment and to celebrate human connections through communication and interactions.

Imagination Station, for ages 5-7, meets from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. This class is a gentle introduction to all things theatre. Students will tell stories using only their voices, bodies and imaginations.

Acting 1, for ages 8-10, meets from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This class focuses on the fundamentals of speaking onstage, from breath support and proper projection, to clarity and diction. The students will apply their newly learned techniques in scripted and improvised scenes.

Acting 2, for ages 10-12, meets from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. This class will help students use their voice in new ways. Students will focus on creating a character, conveying emotion, and advancing the scene all with the power of their voice.

Teen Masterclass: Speaking Shakespeare, for ages 13-18, meets from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Students will learn tricks for memorization and perform passages of scenes from Shakespeare’s works.

LCT Announces Theatre Piece Along Mississippi River, ‘Walking With Twain’

La Crosse, WI – 08/13/18- La Crosse Community Theatre announces that tickets are on sale now for Walking With Twain, an active theatre piece along the Mississippi River. Performances begin September 7, 2018 and continue through Saturday, September 22, 2018. Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 6:00 p.m. and begin at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts. There is no performance scheduled September 8, 2018.

Take a walk with one of America’s greatest wordsmiths as he reflects on the river, society, and the stately city of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Walking With Twain stars LCT actor and storyteller, Michael Scott.

“Shakespeare wrote, ‘All the world’s a stage. . .’ Walking with Twain will test the theory with a theatrical production sans the theater. Join in on this active theatre piece along the most storied river in North America,” said Michael Scott.

LCT Announces Auditions for Fall Comedy, ‘Fools’

La Crosse, WI – 08/07/18 – La Crosse Community Theatre will hold auditions for the comedy, Fools, on August 27 and 28, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. at Weber Center for the Performing Arts, 428 Front Street South, La Crosse, WI.

Leon Tolchinsky is ecstatic: he’s landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic village. He arrives to find people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and milking cows upside down. The town has been cursed with chronic stupidity and anyone who stays longer than 24 hours becomes cursed as well. To further complicate matters, Leon has fallen in love with a girl so dumb that she just learned how to sit down! Can he break the curse in time?

Fools will be directed by guest artist, Liz Golson. Golson received her BFA in Music Theatre from The Hartt School in 2007 and has enjoyed acting professionally all over the country since then. After a strange and wonderful acting career, Golson began to direct and choreograph, most recently choreographing Cabaret at LCT last spring.

Auditions are open for ages 16 and up. There are roles available for men and women. A complete breakdown of roles available can be found here. First-time auditionees are welcome—no experience necessary. Signing up for auditions is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.

Performances are Thursdays through Sundays, October 11-21, 2018. The cast list will be announced during the morning show of WXOW on Friday, August 31, 2018, as well as online and on the stage door. On the eve of her wedding, Sophie’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. The storytelling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love and friendship, creating an unforgettable show with non-stop laughs and explosive dance numbers.

“From its inception in London in 1999 to its smash Broadway run from 2001 to 2015, Mamma Mia has enchanted audiences all over the world. LCT Announces Annual Business Meeting
