La Crosse, WI – 04/15/19 – La Crosse Community Theatre announces that tickets are on sale now for Newsies. Performances begin May 10, 2019, and continue through Sunday, May 26, 2019. Shows are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. in the Lyche Theatre at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of ‘newsies’, who dreams only of a better life. But when publishing titan Joseph Pulitzer raises distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what is right.

“LCT is incredibly excited to present the Broadway smash Newsies. This 2012 Broadway hit is based on the Disney movie from 1992 which, in turn, is based on the real-life newsboys strike of 1899 in New York City. Full of exciting song and dance numbers, you won’t want to miss this high energy and larger than life musical,” said LCT Producing Artistic Director, Grant Golson.

Newsies is directed by William Garcia. This production also features music direction by Katie Fries, choreography by Leslie Weber, conducting by Kristin Freedlund, set design by Kit Mayer, costume design by Irina Christel, lighting design by Dillon McArdle, props design by Renata Orth, sound design by Ryan Van Berkum, accompaniment by Sarah Leitzen and Vicki Riness, technical direction by Pete Suardi, stage management by Molly Brueske, and assistant stage management by Hannahrose Rand.

“My favorite thing about working on Newsies is the unbridled joy of the production. At a time when we often feel polarized and isolated from each other, the show reminds us that when we work together, as a community, nothing is impossible. The show embraces an enthusiasm and a passion for life that inspires everyone who sees it. Everything in the production, the athletic dance numbers, the irresistible melodies, the underdog storyline, reminds us that happiness is at the heart of the human experience,” said Director, William Garcia.
