LCT’s Artistic Director to Join UW-L’s Theater Department

La Crosse Community Theatre announces today that Greg Parmeter, Artistic Director of 8 years, is resigning to join the theater department at UW-La Crosse for the 2016-17 school year.

Greg Parmeter began his career as an elementary school teacher working with special needs students.  He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in acting.  He first came to La Crosse when his wife, Mandy, was hired by LCT as their new resident costume designer.  While working as a free-lance actor, he was invited to co-direct Sound of Music at La Crosse Community Theatre in April 2008. When LCT realized that it needed someone to focus on fundraising and the pursuit of a new building, the position of artistic director was created and Parmeter was hired after a national search.  His first season beginning September 2008 included To Kill a Mockingbird, Something’s Afoot, and The Producers.

“LCT is excited for Greg Parmeter as we know that he is a teacher at heart and this opportunity allows him to influence future theatre professionals,” executive director David Kilpatrick reported.

Greg Parmeter expressed, “I’m grateful for my time here at LCT and the incredible volunteers I have had the honor to work with over the last eight years. This theatre will always hold a special place in my heart.  Mandy and I feel blessed to live and work in a community that has such a deep regard for the arts, and theatre in particular.  I have long admired the theatre program at UW-L am excited to be joining such a talented and dedicated group of people. The work goes on.”

“Thankfully, Greg Parmeter has done most of the heavy lifting for our 2016-2017 season, which gives LCT the time to conduct a search for an appropriate replacement,” reported Kilpatrick, “For 33 shows Greg Parmeter demonstrated his passion for the arts and his respect for the community, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

To show our appreciation for all that Greg Parmeter has accomplished at LCT, there will be an open house at the Weber Center on Sunday, August 28 from 5:00pm – to 7:00pm. All volunteers, subscribers, donors, patrons and public are invited to come and say “Thank you.”
