Roller Disco Musical XANADU coming soon

04-Xanadu-webLa Crosse Community Theatre announces that tickets go on sale Monday, February 13, 2017, for the musical comedy, Xanadu. Performances begin March 2, 2017, and continue through Sunday, March 12, 2017. Shows are Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. in the Lyche Theatre at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts.

Xanadu is the story of Kira, a magical and beautiful Greek muse who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time–the first ROLLER DISCO! But when Kira falls in love with the mortal, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds!

Xanadu is directed and choreographed by guest artist, Christopher George Patterson. A native of New Jersey, Patterson’s work has been featured across the country and Canada. He has worked for several regional theatres, including the Paper Mill Playhouse, Oregon Cabaret Theatre, and Cumberland County Playhouse.

Patterson reveals, “My memory of the movie was the colorful score featuring Grammy Award winner, Olivia Newton John, and as well as the many blockbuster dance sequences the featured the legendary Gene Kelly. The Broadway production turned a movie that was deemed a flop into an award-winning Broadway hit with something for every taste.”

This production also features musical direction by Sarah Leitzen, set and lighting design by Dillon McArdle, costume design by Viterbo Alumni Bryce Turgeon, with stage management by Krista Kuhn.

The performers are Avery Gerstenberger as Sonny Malone, Karla Hughes as Kira, Rick King Quale as Danny Maguire, Melinda Pupillo as Melpomene, Maria Runde as Calliope, Laikyn Boettcher as Euterpe, Brianna Frost as Erato, LaKisha McCloud as Thalia, Allie Marshall as Terpsichore, Ryan Brown as Zeus/Ensemble, Larsen Birdsong as Young Danny, and James Gilbertson as Cyclops/Ensemble.

“We are excited to have such a talented team create a show that promises to be fun for the entire family,” David Kilpatrick, executive director reports. “LCT is honored to have such an experienced and professional director/choreographer leading this show. It has been rewarding for the performers and will be a delight for our audiences.”
