Internship - Stage Material Management System
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
The Stage Material Management System is a Google Doc based system for documenting the stored materials used for LCT productions. LCT staff has started the project but needs help in getting the project completed. The intern is responsible for implementing the Stage Material Management System. This includes collaborating with the Technical Director and other shop staff to create a detailed, accurate, and searchable inventory of existing scenic pieces, props, and miscellaneous materials. The ultimate goal of this project is to reduce waste and save time and money by enabling designers and staff to efficiently reuse and recycle items.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work in conjunction with the Technical Director to complete a computer-based system for the inventory management.
- Measure, photograph, and catalog various items including, but not limited to, scenic flats, platforms, furniture, and props.
- Input data and photos into the database.
- Assist in the physical organization of the materials as they are cataloged.
- Collaborate with and supervise a Youth Apprentice to ensure props and scenic elements are properly accounted for and documented.
- Help create a safe and organized work environment in all storage areas.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Currently enrolled as a college student, sophomore or above.
- Background in Information Technology, Theatre Production, or a related field is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage project timelines.
- Familiarity with spreadsheet software (e.g., Google Sheets, Excel).
- Basic photography skills.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with staff and volunteers.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the shop and storage areas for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Work environment is fast-paced and may require working in, on, and around stairs and ladders
Salary: $2,000 paid per the following milestones:
- $500 on completion of database setup
- $500 after all furniture, doors, windows, railings, and all other items are added to the database
- $500 once all flats have been added to the database
- $500 after all stairs, platforms, and other scenic units are added to the database
Hours: Contract, flexible schedule, 10-15 hours/week until completion.
