La Crosse, WI – 09/03/19 – La Crosse Community Theatre announces that tickets go on sale Monday, September 9, 2019 for Bad Seed. Performances begin October 4, 2019, and continue through Sunday, October 20, 2019. Shows are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. in the Veterans Studio Theatre at the Weber Center for the Performing Arts.

Little Rhoda Penmark is the evil queen of the story. On the surface, she is sweet, charming, full of old-fashioned graces, loved by her parents, and admired by all her elders. But after a boy from her class wins the penmanship medal instead of her, Rhoda’s charm turns to spite. When the boy mysteriously drowns at a picnic, Mrs. Penmark can’t shake the feeling that Rhoda was somehow involved. Would Rhoda do anything to get the medal she felt she deserved?

“When the film adaptation of the Bad Seed released in 1956, it had audiences in a tizzy. Never before had a child been portrayed as a cold-blooded killer. Hollywood went so far as to rewrite the ending to make it more acceptable to audiences of the day. However, nothing can top the original ending. Curious to know what happens? Come see Bad Seed at LCT and discover why this story lives on 54 years after the original novel was published,” said LCT Producing Artistic Director and the show’s director, Grant Golson.

Bad Seed is directed by Grant Golson. This production also features set design by Kit Mayer, costume design by Irina Christel, lighting design by Kit Mayer, props design by Sue Tomashek, sound design by Luke Erickson, technical direction by Peter Suardi, stage management by Seth Keiser, and assistant direction by Colin Thelen.

The performers are Avie Nelson as Rhoda Penmark, Kelley Manson as Christine Penmark, Matt Springer as Col. Kenneth Penmark, Janine Gallo as Monica Breedlove, Ian Crary as Emery Wages, Avery Gerstenberger as Leroy, Lizz Brannon as Miss Fern, Tom Desjarlais as Reginald Tasker, Shana Gramling as Mrs. Daigle, David Bigalke as Mr. Daigle/Messenger, and William Garcia as Richard Bravo.
